With the Guitar Hero franchise currently on an extended hiatus, it looks like Neversoft is turning their attention to a much less musical genre, the first-person shooter. Wait, what?
For those keeping count, the last game Neversoft did with any guns in it was — er — GUN.
Neversoft is (thankfully) taking a break from the Guitar Hero series to focus on something else. But whoever guessed that they’d do a first-person shooter next is either a psychic or a hardcore fan of GUN, the last game they did that fits anywhere around the genre. (It doesn’t, before anyone points that out; GUN was a third-person, action adventure Western title.)
Shack News and Gamerzines were first to point out some interesting job postings on Neversoft’s hiring website, several of which listing development positions for a first-person shooter game. Here’s the full breakdown of open positions, in case you’re a programmer, design, or video game executive that’s looking for a job:
- Windows PC Platform Lead Engineer: FPS
- Studio Art Director
- Sr. Technical Artist: FPS
- Sr. Level Designer: FPS
- Single Player Design Scripter: FPS
- Senior Environment Artist: FPS
- Senior Concept Artist: FPS
- Network Programmer: FPS
- Level Designer: FPS
- Lead Multiplayer Level Designer: FPS
- Associate Level Designer
Whatever the project is, it’s obviously not a Tony Hawk game either, and they’re hiring what looks like a full studio. Interesting. Maybe a sequel to GUN? Or perhaps skateboarding mixed with guns? Because that would be pretty neat.
